The 105lb team let one slip away this weekend. The lopsided score, 26-14 clearly was not indicative of how we measured up against Bristol. We came out in the first quarter and stopped them for no gain and were able to force a turnover. Offensively we pounded the ball off tackle and kept them guessing until we scored.

As things were working so effortlessly in the first quarter the second proved to be the turning point. Bristol came out and began executing plays with an inside counter and running around the ends to put together a drive that led to their first touchdown. Once we got the ball back things seemed to fall apart for the Generals. We had a few miscues and couple turnovers that Bristol took advantage of. From that point on it was tough for us to get back into the game.

In spite of the outcome the coaches were pleased with the effort the boys are showing. I’d like to mention a few of the kids that had a great game this past week. Blake Anderson, who played exceptionally well on special teams and cornerback; Charlie Baker, who is as solid as they come as an offensive tackle and fills in on the defensive line when his number is called; Matthew Dwyer, who shares a large responsibility of controlling the offensive line; Timmy Scudder who gives up some lbs. every week to play the defensive line, but makes a tremendous impact; and Elliott Calloway, who threw a halfback option pass for a touchdown late in the game. Great game guys, keep up the good work.

Week 3 turned out to be a tough week for the 105lb team. We started out the week unable to practice due to the inclement weather and had a tougher time putting points on the board and preventing points from our opponent, the Methacton Raiders. We lost the game 27-0, but as I told the kids; I’ve been around football for a long time and those games happen. What was more apparent than the score was the resiliency of the team. Not for one second in four quarters did these boys give up or hang their heads in disappointment.

As you know, you win as a team and you lose as a team, but I’d like to point out some outstanding play from a few players:

* David Hobson for playing wherever he is asked to play and giving 100% effort – keep up the good work Dave;

*Mitch Biester for his outstanding play despite the score. Mitch ran the ball hard and caught every ball that was thrown his way, even though he was triple teamed – great job Mitch!

*Aiden McMeekin for drawing the tough assignment of blocking the toughest kid on the opposing team and did VERY well.

*And last but certainly not least, Billy Carlini who is the lightest kid on the field in every game we play, but continues to make outstanding plays in the trenches. He gets held, pushed, sat on and continues to beat his opponent to make tackles for losses!

Great job Generals! The coaching staff couldn’t be prouder.

After 3 quarters of hard play in the grueling heat and humidity, the 90lb Generals team lead the King of Prussia Indians 2-0 (you read it right, 2-0).

The games rare safety came shortly after a long 60 yard Generals drive stalled at the 2 yard line. First year player Riley Deshetler forced the shifty King of Prussia running back in to his own end zone on the ensuing turnover of possession. This play gave the Generals the jump start we needed but were not able to capitalize on the short field left from the forced safety punt. The momentum however did carry over to the last King of Prussia possession before the half were our Generals defense came up big and stopped a drive that was headed for a potential touchdown. Second year cornerback Chris Henkel smartly secured the ball carrier before stripping him of ball and ending the half.

The second half was a story of missed opportunities for us. While the King of Prussia squad did not do anything fancy, they consistently beat us to the punch on every snap. Our guys fought hard while overcoming a fast moving fever / sickness that moved through our team and forced most of our players to miss practice this week at one point or another. The effects of which apparently still lingered and reduced their strength. The King of Prussia team got to the end zone first early in the fourth quarter and took the momentum that usually comes to the first team to hit the end zone after a long defensive struggle. Add another score with 30 seconds left and you get the final 12-2.

Other notable performances included the running of Chris Radina who had a long 80 yard run called back because of a holding penalty. Chris carried the rock again and added to his week one rushing yardage where he ripped off two long runs of 50 yards or greater on that day. Chase Smith, getting his first start ever at quarterback, turned in a good performance while adding leadership to the Generals huddle. Jack Dudrear turned in his usual gutty performance on offense and defense and once again showed why he can be put anywhere on the field and produce good results.

What an exciting game! Everyone knows the game is won and loss by inches and yesterday the 105lb team literally came up a few inches short of a victory. With the Generals down 13 – 6 late in the fourth quarter they were able to force Marsh Creek to turn the ball over on downs. With less than two minutes left in the game the Generals drove down the field on an ariel attack led by the marvelous arm of Jake Anapolsky. His two main receivers were Shane Scott and Elliott Calloway. Jake was able to perform his best John Elway impression to thread the needle to find Shane Scott, who was being tightly defended by a Marsh Creek defender. However, Shane made a miraculous catch down to the Marsh Creek 10-yard line. From there Jake was able to hit Elliott in the flat, who scampered to the pylon for a touchdown!

With the score 13 – 12, the Generals overloaded the offense line to the left where Elliott rumbled off tackle to attempt to tie the game, but was stopped a few inches short of the goal line. With less than twenty-six seconds left the Generals went for the on-side kick for one last attempt to secure a win, but to no avail as Marsh Creek was able to pounce on the ball and kill the clock.

As exciting as the game was, none of this would have been possible without the great play of Andrew Gluck, who helped control the game on the offense and defensive line. The outstanding play of Nicholas Cantando, who held is ground at left and right tackle, which allowed Jake to throw the ball effortlessly. Mark Sarkissian, who played safety like a centerfielder and denied any passes, thrown his way. And the big hits from our linebacker Ryan Duffy!

Did I mention that same team beat the Generals by three touchdowns last year?? Great game Generals!!!
Our next opponent will be Methacton on 9/10 at 10:00am.

Coach Scott

On Saturday, the Generals 80 pound team pulled out a close victory over a tough Lenape Valley 3 squad by a score of 25-19. This was the first tackle game for the Generals 80 pounders, which makes the victory over an experienced Lenape Valley team even more impressive.

After a jittery start, the defense settled in with a great effort. In particular, the defensive line did a tremendous job penetrating into the Lenape Valley backfield, disrupting almost every play and generally creating havoc. The defense also demonstrated uncommon relentlessness, pursuing to the whistle on every play.

On offense the Generals put together an electrifying ground attack. The offensive line manhandled the Lenape Valley line and the ends landed a number of devastating blocks on outside runs. Finally, the backs did a tremendous job of finding a seam in the defense and breaking long runs.

All in all it was a great start to the season and we are looking forward to our next game at Lower Perkiomen next Sunday at noon!

Despite the impending storm approaching the 105lb team was able to get a hard fought game in against Penndel in which they came out victorious with a 19-6 win! This was my first year as a head coach and couldn’t be more proud of the team effort and the parental support with the time changes to make sure the game was played.

Everyone knows the game is won in the trenches(defensive and offensive line) and I would like to commend the play of Reese Acton, Collin McCullough, Andrew Paollizzi, Mark Hengel and Charles Driver. Without their outstanding play this victory would not be possible. Not only myself, but the opposing coach was very impressed on how we controlled the line of scrimmage in such inclement weather. Great job Generals! Keep up the good work!
