2007 Conestoga Generals Game Reports - Week 2

Tackle 90-2 vs Northampton - 21-6 The Big Red Machine made one loooong trip to play a ballgame (on a steamy hot day in the 90's, no less) but the trip was worth it as at the end of the day the Generals improved to 2-0 with a convincing 21-6 victory over another group of Indians, this one from Northampton.  The Generals won the coin toss and received the opening kick-off. A very efficient opening 9-play drive was capped off by a 22-yard TD run by Sunshine Aitken and an extra point run by The Shark Larkin.  The key play on the drive was a crucial 4th down conversion on a run to the left by Larkin.  The 4th down run and the TD run would not have been possible without the steady blocking from the O-line, in particular Golden Boy McGoldrick, Icebox Izzo, The Yak Sidoriak and Wild Thing Henry, who opened up some huge lanes.

Northampton scored a TD on their first possession but the D-line, with Doomsday Dougherty, Will the Thrill Chiles and Nick the Falcon Falcone leading the way, stopped the Indians short on the extra point keeping the score at 7-6.

The Generals got the ball for a second time in the 1st half and ripped off a 14-play, remainder of the half, consuming drive keeping the ball away from the Indian offense.  Nicholas "Brickwall" Kick, Sackmeister Shank and Hawk Hamilton delivered fine blocking for the General ball carriers, with Nails Kravitz helping to keep the drive going with tough running up the middle. With only seconds remaining in the half and on 4th and goal, Will "Taz" Reiss rolled to his right and plowed into the end zone while getting clobbered by some Indian defenders.  The Generals surprised all in attendance on their extra point attempt, setting up for a kick.  The ball was snapped, placed and Sunshine Aitken booted it right through the uprights adding 2 points to the Generals score going into halftime with a 15-6 lead.

Northampton received the kickoff to start the 2nd half but the Big Red D was rested and ready to swarm.  Four plays later, with Hulk Heron and Jake the Snake Honesty heading the charge, the Indians had gone nowhere and turned the ball back over to the Generals on downs.

The Generals had the ball for a third time on this hot day and wanted to put the game away. Chewing up yards on the ground, the 3rd quarter expired and the Generals were about to make the play of their season.  On the first snap of the 4th quarter, from the Northampton 18-yd line, with Bull Fogarty and Liam "The Gargantuan" Gorman keeping the defensive line at bay, Taz Reiss ran a fake handoff, rolled to his right and threw a perfect spiral to Sunshine Aitken who hauled it in for a TD pass.  The Generals sideline and fans went crazy.  With a miss on the extra point attempt the Generals went up by a score of 21-6.

The Indians made a last attempt to get back into the game but the Generals D would not have any of that.  Noah "The Beast" Offenkrantz made a great, possibly TD saving tackle, wrapping up the shifty Indian back.  Nails Kravitz and Mad Dog McGuckin each made plays, and on 4th down Wild Thing Henry laid out the Indian runner with a crushing tackle.

The Generals squad deserves a hand for this game, playing soundly as a team, on a miserably hot day and methodically putting away a tough Northampton team.   The Big Red Machine has their home opener next weekend aiming to extend their winning streak against ANOTHER Indian team, this one the Lenape Valley 3 squad.
