2007 Conestoga Generals Game Reports - Week 3

Tackle 90-2 vs Lenape Valley 3 - 27-6 The Big Red Machine had their home opener on a beautiful day at Wilson Park field and took care of business with a 27-6 victory over the Lenape Valley Indians 3 team.  The win improved the Generals record to 3-0 but the Generals looked a little rusty to start the game.  LV received the opening kickoff and after stopping them on three straight downs, with great D by Doomsday Dougherty and Bull Fogarty, LV punted.  However, the Generals fumbled the punt giving the ball back to LV. Golden Boy McGoldrick stopped the LV ball carrier on 1st down but on 2nd down LV executed a great pass play scoring a TD against the stunned Generals D.  It would be the first time this season the Generals have trailed in a game.  Shark Larkin and The Beast Offenkrantz (who played a great game on D) stopped LV on the extra point keeping the score at 6-0.

On LV's kickoff the Generals again fumbled the ball which was recovered by LV and once again the Generals D had to take the field.  There would be no TD pass on this series though as Nails Kravitz and Mad Dog McGuckin crushed the LV runner on 1st down and Danny Sackmeister Shank lived up to his nickname with a huge sack of the LV QB on 3rd down.

On the Generals first offensive series, Sunshine Aitken took off for a 45-yd TD run as Liam The Enforcer Gorman opened a huge hole with a devastating block.   The Generals were not successful on the extra point attempt and the score was tied 6-6.

LV could not do anything on their next series as the Generals D was dominating.  After a punt by LV the Generals O was about to go to work.  Shark Larkin went left for a nice gain as Matt "The Italian Stallion" Izzo cleared the way and then Sunshine Aitken scored on another long TD run capping that off with an extra point kick and giving the Generals a 14-6 lead.

On the Generals kickoff, Wild Thing Henry laid "some wood" on the LV returner sending a message that the Generals were going to put this one away.  With nothing working on the ground, LV thought they could get something going through the air but the Jake The Snake Honesty said no way and made a great play from his corner spot tipping the ball away from the LV receiver.

On their 3rd possession of the 1st half, Andrew "Grandma's Boy" Larkin ran with determination and with help from a great block by Will The Thrill Chiles scored the Generals 3rd TD of the half.  Missing the extra point attempt kept the score at 20-6.

LV had one last chance before halftime but Beast Offenkrantz was on the field making a tackle on 3rd down and intercepting a pass on 4th down as the horn sounded for the half.

The Generals got the ball to start the 3rd quarter and Taz Reiss, continuing his excellent QB play, hit Sunshine Aitken in stride for a 40-yd TD pass.  Taz was fired up and ran the ball in for the extra point bringing the score to 27-6.

LV tried their best to get some positive yardage but Brickwall Kick, The Hawk Hamilton and Hulk Heron each made tackles and LV was once again forced to punt.

Nails Kravitz and Beast Offenkrantz each ran the ball well on the Generals next possession, with Nick The Falcon Falcone pushing the LV D-line all over the field, and Taz Reiss ran a QB sweep for 25 hard earned yards.   The Generals turned the ball over on downs to LV who once again continued to try and hit the big one through the air.  Shark Larkin, in excellent position, picked off another LV pass giving the ball back to the Generals.  Wild Thing Henry and Dylan The Wild Yak Sidoriak, each running like madmen and breaking tackles, helped run out the clock and preserve the Generals win.

The Generals are back on the road next week at Pottstown and look to keep their winning streak alive.

Flag Team 2 vs Pennridge - 28-34 The Conestoga Generals Flag Team #2 lost a hard fought battle with the Pennridge Greenjackets 34 – 28.

The Generals fell behind early but fought back throughout the game to make this a real barnburner.  Helping lead the comeback was the offensive line of Buck Walsh, Shane Scott, Ryan Maher, Remi Beltran and Michael Erickson.  They opened up holes against a tough team for Quarterback Eric Satell and running backs, Mark Montague and Kyle Nicholson.  All three of these tough backs took advantage of the blocks from their teammates and scored touchdowns.

The Defense was led by Middle Linebacker Nia Scott as well as Defensive Tackles Domenic Sanchirico, Miles Scott and Brian Christner.  Miles Scott made an unbelievable come from behind stop to earn a game ball.  Billy “The Last Line of Defense” Carlini patrolled the secondary and made several good plays.  Containing the GreenJacket offense were outside linebackers, Mark Montague and Ryan Maher as well as Defensive Ends, Kyle Nicholson, Michael Erickson and Eric Satell.

Flag Team 3 vs Pennridge Team 4 - 34-26 The Conestoga Generals Flag Football Team 3 won their first game of the season today against the Pennridge Greenjackets Team 4.  The Generals came out very strong in the first half with touchdown runs by quarterback Brooks Rush and running backs Jason Ivey and Carter Nelson, who is the youngest player on the team. Jason had another score in the half, but it was called back (half-way) because one of his flags was not on his belt properly.

Brooks Rush and Jason Ivey each added one more touchdown in the second half.  Extra points during the game were run in by Will Pless, Danny Kluge, Brooks and Jason.

Running backs Sean Meals and Graham Muscella had excellent games, gaining important yardage on our way to several scores.

Once again this week, the offensive line, led by Tackles Sage Garito, Will Pless and Jason Ivey, Centers, Stuart Berlinger and Joe Latona, and Guards Chris Mayo and Graham Muscella, dominated the line of scrimmage, opening up holes for our backfield to run through while protecting our quarterback.

It should be noted that everyone on the team plays both offense and defense.  While the temperature was a comfortable 65 degrees F at game time, the generals played the entire game with only 3 substitutes.  All that training in the summer is certainly paying off now.

The General’s defense did such a stellar job of stopping the Greenjacket’s offense, that by early in the second half, we were ahead by three touchdowns.  Sage Garito, Will Pless, Brooks Rush, Chris Mayo, Stuart Berlinger and Jason Ivey all shared the defensive line positions and penetrated the Greenjacket’s backfield on every play.

Defensive backs Danny Kluge, Sean Meals, Carter Nelson and Graham Muscella all had great games, making some important stops on the General’s way to victory.

The Greejackets came on strong in the second half, and on the last drive of the game, they were looking to tie up the score.  However, the General’s defense held tough, stopping them short of the endzone, ensuring the win.
