2007 Conestoga Generals Game Reports - Week 7

Tackle 90-2 vs Souderton-1 - 18-0 The Big Red Machine, anxious to get back in the win column, did so in a big way shutting out the Souderton Braves 18-0 on the Braves' home field and on a beautiful fall day.  The Generals improved to 6-1 with the impressive win.

The Braves opened the game with a little trickery, attempting an onside kick.  The Generals would not be fooled however and easily recovered and then began a methodic march down the field.  The interior line of Liam "The Punisher" Gorman, Matt "The Italian Stallion" Izzo, Dylan "The Dishwasher" Sidoriak, Niko "The Screaming Greek" Henry and Nicholas "Brickwall" Kick dominated the Braves and opened up huge running lanes for the Generals backfield. Sunshine Aitken ran for the first TD of the game and after missing the extra point the Generals would lead 6-0.

Souderton really had no shot as the Generals D really came to play on this day.  After a quick 4 and out, with great tackle play from Tommy "The Bull" Fogarty and Thomas "Doomsday" Dougherty, the Generals would get the ball back to their O.  Although their next drive had a few hiccups, Taz Reiss had an amazing QB keeper called back on a penalty, the Generals would score again with Andrew "Lightning" Larkin busting one right up the middle.  Again the Generals would fail on the extra point attempt and lead 12-0.

The Generals tried their own onside kick (inadvertently) and recovered, giving the ball back to the dangerous O.  Lightning Larkin would score again (we would find out later that Andrew's grandma was in attendance and when that is the case lookout for #3!) thanks to an incredible block by Danny "The Sackmeister" Shank who blocked no less than three defenders on the play.  Missing the extra point, AGAIN, the Generals would lead 18-0.

Souderton would have the ball back for only one play as they fumbled and it was recovered by the Generals who were forced to punt it back to the Braves.   Again, the Generals D would need to come up big and it sure did.   Jake "The Snake" Honesty made a great tackle on first down and the entire Generals D, lead by Will "The Thrill" Chiles, Matt "Hulk" Heron and Noah "The Beast" Offenkrantz, swarmed for a gang tackle on 2nd down. On 3rd down, Zach "Nails" Kravitz blew up the middle, sacked the Braves QB and stripped him of the ball,  Marty "Mad Dog" McGuckin scooped up the loose ball and saw nothing in his sight but the end zone, almost chugging it in as a lone Brave defender made a TD saving tackle.  The Generals were unable to punch it in and would lead at halftime 18-0.

The second half story was the Big Red Defense who, led by linebackers Lightning Larkin, Sunshine Aitken and Beast Offenkrantz and ends Will "Taz" Reiss and Niko "Wild Thing" Henry, shut down the Braves the entire half never letting them get back in the game.

The halftime score would also be the final score with the Generals earning a hard fought victory.  A HUGE home game looms for The Big Red Machine next weekend against the Methacton Wolverines.

Flag Team 2 vs Abington Team 1 - 13-6 Conestoga Flag Team number 2 faced an incredible challenge on Saturday.  They traveled to Abington to play the 7 – 0 undefeated Abington Raiders Team #1.   It took a total team effort but the Generals were able to pull out a hard fought win.  Every player on the Generals contributed to the win.  Each player got a chance to carry the ball as well as block and play defense.

In their first drive of the game, the Generals faced stiff opposition but emerged with a touchdown.  Getting key first downs on the drive were Remi Beltran and Kyle Nicholson.  Michael Erickson also had a key catch of an Eric Satell pass for a first down to keep the drive going.  Satell was 2 for 2 on the drive with the other pass being completed to Kyle Nicholson.

Ryan Maher scored the touchdown on an incredible run where he took advantage of the up front blocking from Buck Walsh, Shane Scott, Michael Erickson, Remi Beltran, and Mark Montague.  Buck Walsh scored the deciding point on an exciting extra point run.  Walsh was almost stopped at the line of scrimmage, but he refused to be denied and was able to carry the ball across the goal line.

On Defense, Mark Montague was all over the field making several big plays.  Also starring on defense were Eric Satell, Kyle Nicholson, Brian Christner, Ryan Maher, Nia Scott, Billy Carlini, Domenic Sanchirico and Michael Erickson.  Miles Scott had his best game of the season. He made several touchdown saving stops in the first half.

As the half neared an end, Miles Scott made an incredible run.  The clock ran out before the Generals could take advantage of Scott’s efforts with a score.

In the second half, the Generals got several great runs from Mark Montague.  Billy Carlini, Nia Scott,  Brian Christner and Domenic Sanchirico also had nice runs to help control the ball in the second half.  The Generals scored their second touchdown on a long run by Eric Satell.  Shane Scott fell just short of the extra point on a very good run.

In the end, the Generals prevailed because each player dug deep to play their very best game of the season.  The team pulled together and every player played an important role in the hard earned victory.
